STAFF JOB DESCRIPTIONS
Although WBRY is primarily an undergraduate enterprise, the policy of the Department of Communication is that the station manager and marketing director positions will be open to qualified graduate students before they are offered to undergraduates.
WBRY Station Manager (Closed)
Remuneration: Graduate Assistantship of three (3) academic credits and $1500 per semester.
Responsible for all aspects of WBRY
- Supervises WBRY Management staff, maintains contact with student organizations, other Barry departments, and Barry administration.
- Monitors WBRY via AM radio and the internet to ensure signal quality
- Answers to the FCC, listeners and customers and to the Communications Department and Barry University Administration, via the Faculty Advisor.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: management, negotiation and communications skills, both written and oral.
EXPERIENCE: One year at WBRY in any capacity is preferred. Broadcasting experience required.
WBRY Promotions Director (Closed)
Remuneration: Graduate Assistantship of three (3) academic credits and $1500 per semester.
Responsible for WBRY’s image, on and off campus, and for raising revenues
- Increase WBRY’s presence on campus and in the community, both for On-air Programming and for Entertainment Services
- Ensure the WBRY web-site is up to date
- Produce weekly newsletters/announcements
- Recruit, train and supervise promotions staff
- Reports to the Station Manager and answers to WBRY stakeholders.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Must be familiar with press releases, flyers, displays and event management
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: One year working with WBRY in any capacity is preferred. Sales/Marketing experience required.
WBRY Program Director (Closed)
Remuneration: Undergraduate tuition remission of 10% per semester + federal work study if applicable or volunteer.
Responsible for on-air operations of WBRY
- Plan programming schedule
- Recruit, train and supervise on-air DJs
- Ensure that automation schedules are operating properly each day
- Broaden the on-air offering, loading & categorizing all new music
- Compile the required station logs for BMI, including music, commercials & PSAs
- Reports to the General manager and answers to the FCC and WBRY audiences
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Must be familiar with radio station and recording studio equipment.
EXPERIENCE: One year working with WBRY in an on-air capacity. DJ experience required.
WBRY News Director (Closed)
Remuneration: Undergraduate tuition remission of 10% per semester + federal work study if applicable or volunteer.
- Responsible for News and Public Affairs programming
- Ensure that WBRY airs a daily newscast Monday to Friday
- Recruit, train and supervise reporters
- Reports to the General Manager and answers to WBRY audiences.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Must be familiar with broadcast news writing.
EXPERIENCE: One semester working with WBRY News is preferred. News experience desired.
WBRY Assistant News Director (Closed)
Remuneration: Federal work study or volunteer
Responsible for News and Public Affairs programming
Ensure that WBRY airs a daily newscast Monday to Friday
Recruit, train and supervise reporters
Reports to the General Manager and answers to WBRY audiences

Field Events Coordinator (Closed)
Remuneration: Federal work study or volunteer
Supervises delivery of entertainment at events contracted for by WBRY AND/OR functions as DJ for the event.
- Supervise Set Up of equipment prior to an event
- Conduct/supervise DJ operation during the event
- Supervise breakdown and return of equipment to WBRY after the event.
- Reports to the WBRY Marketing Director
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Knowledge of contemporary music, DJ equipment and its maintenance
EXPERIENCE: One semester experience with WBRY Entertainment Services preferred. Field DJ experience required.
Station Engineer (open)
Remuneration: Federal work study or volunteer
Manages WBRY equipment and ensures that WBRY remains on air.
- Takes Inventory at the beginning and end of each semester
- Checks field equipment after each event
- Checks studio equipment weekly
- Maintains all station equipment in good working order
- Responds to problems with equipment or with the signal (Channel 16, Internet, AM & Speakers)
- Reports to the WBRY Station manager
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Knowledge of contemporary audio equipment and its maintenance
EXPERIENCE: One semester experience with WBRY preferred. Knowledge of audio equipment required.
