Program Overview

Barry's Reading MS program meets the demand for highly-qualified teachers of Reading. You will find that our graduate reading courses present evidence-based best practices for teaching and learning strategies. Classes are taught in small settings by full-time professors who represent a broad and deep knowledge of reading education.

Two Graduate Program Options

• Reading Certification: 30 credit program that results in a Master of Science degree in Reading
• Reading Endorsement: 15 graduate credit program, which is an add-on certification to an professional educator's existing certification

Designed for Working Professionals

All courses are offered in the evening. Most courses meet once a week for eight or sixteen weeks. Summer courses meet in a ten or twelve week format.

Most students complete the program in less than two years while continuing to teach.

State-Approved Program

This program is state-approved. This means that, upon completion of the program, you are eligible for the State of Florida Reading Certification. The Florida Sunshine State Standards, Competencies and Skills, as well as the Accomplished Practices, are reflected in the Reading program's content.

Master of Science in Reading

Designed for:

• Florida-certified elementary and secondary teachers looking for MS in Reading and Reading Certification
• Current teachers or those eligible for certification either through another state or an alternative venue

Educational Specialist in Reading

Designed for:

• Individuals who already hold a Master's degree in any area and wish to obtain Reading Degree and Certification

Reading Endorsement

Designed for:

• Florida-certified elementary and secondary teachers who choose to have their Reading Endorsement applied to their current certification
