Dr. Joyce Warner, associate professor, joined the Reading Faculty in the Adrian Dominican School of Education in 2003. From 2001 through 2003 she was Regional Coordinator for the Florida Literacy and Reading Excellence (FLaRE) Center at the University of Central Florida. She also taught Reading Practicum, Remedial Reading, and Language Arts graduate degree and certification courses at Florida Atlantic University, where she also was a supervisor of developing teachers.
Dr. Warner has 30 years of K-12 experience in all areas and levels of literacy, reading and language arts education. In addition to her direct classroom experience, she led school-wide Title I programs and she initiated and led a district wide high school literacy program.
She holds an EdD from the University of Pennsylvania with a specialization in reading, an MS in Curriculum Development from Monmouth University and a BA in English from Syracuse University. She is a Teacher/Teacher Trainer for Orton-Gillingham reading programs, and is certified in Florida as a Reading Specialist, K-12.
Dr. Warner is active in local, state, and international reading organizations. She is currently a manuscript reviewer for The Reading Teacher, The Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy and the journal of Literacy Research and Instruction. She has been a consultant to the Michigan Department of Education for development of the statewide Michigan Educational Assessment Program, the Louisiana Department of Education and Broward county public schools. Research interests are: Teacher Education Preparation; Adolescent Literacy; Assessment of and for learning to read; Learners at risk of reading failure
