About the RISE Program

Biology and chemistry majors with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out biomedical hands-on research enter this two or three year program as sophomores or juniors. Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups are encouraged to apply. The program consists of:

• Research Beginnings Summer Workshop
• Summer Research Experience
• Building Foundation in Research Experiences
• Presentations at Biomedical Seminar Series
• Attendance and Presentations at Scientific Meetings
• Tutorial Workshops
• Graduate School Preparation including GRE and Graduate School workshops

The program provides Building Foundations in Research (BFoRe) experiences on-campus for 10 hours/week during the 15 weeks Fall and Spring semesters, and up to 40hours/week for two weeks during the winter break; a $1,500 annual allowance for research supplies and travel allowance for students to attend and present their research at scientific meetings. Students are compensated at $12.00/hour for the student development activities.
