About the RISE Program

Biology and chemistry majors with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out biomedical hands-on research enter this two or three year program as sophomores or juniors. Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups are encouraged to apply. The program consists of:
- Research Beginnings Summer Workshop
- Summer Research Experience
- Building Foundation in Research Experiences
- Presentations at Biomedical Seminar Series
- Attendance and Presentations at Scientific Meetings
- Tutorial Workshops
- Graduate School Preparation including GRE and Graduate School workshops
The program provides Building Foundations in Research (BFoRe) experiences on-campus for 10 hours/week during the 15 weeks Fall and Spring semesters, and up to 40hours/week for two weeks during the winter break; a $1,500 annual allowance for research supplies and travel allowance for students to attend and present their research at scientific meetings. Students are compensated at $12.00/hour for the student development activities.
