About the RISEE Program

EPA / Barry University Research Internship for Students in Environmental Ecology (RISEE)
Funded by a grant from the EPA

The Barry RISEE Program is for Barry undergraduate students and local Dade and Broward County high school students. The program provides students with academic preparation, research experience, and the drive needed for undergraduate and graduate study in the environmental field.

Students in the RISEE Program participate in environmental science training and research internships with Barry faculty, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and various partner institutions around the nation. Students also participate and receive college credit for a four-week summer Introduction to Research Workshop.

Your experiences in the RISEE program will give you the foundation to pursue careers in environmental and marine fields.

High School News

The 2008 Introduction to Research Summer Workshop will be held Monday, June 9th through Friday, June 27th at Barry University in School of Natural and Health Sciences room 235.  Due to the last day of high school being later this year we have pushed back the original start date and will have the workshop be 5 days for 3 weeks.  The workshop will be from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Transportation to and from the workshop is the responsibility of the student as well as lunch.  There are places to purchase lunch and eat on campus and there will be at least a 30 minutes lunch break each day.  Thus far planned field trips include a day long trip to Shark Valley Everglades National Park.  Also, several trips to Oleta River State Park for land and water activities and a trip to the water treatment facility in Hollywood have been scheduled.  The two instructors, Drs. Macia and Montague, myself, Meghan Buckley, and the water safety team, Sharon Kegeles and Eva Cihos are very excited to get this workshop started and have a great summer!
