Barry’s College Reach-Out Program receives grant funding

The Adrian Dominican School of Education Department of Counseling has received a grant in the amount of $54,926.64 for 2015-2016 from the Florida Department of Education to continue its one-of-a-kind College Reach-Out Program (C.R.O.P.) for the 2015-2016.

C.R.O.P. is a statewide program aimed to motivate and prepare educationally disadvantaged, low-income students in grades 6 through 12 to pursue and successfully complete a college education. Since 1999, Barry University’s ADSOE- Department of Counseling is the only program of its kind in the state of Florida to provide counseling services to C.R.O.P. students and their families along with tutoring, mentoring, college symposiums, and summer residential programs.

Barry University's ADSOE- Department of Counseling recognizes that the family is an integral part of a student's development, whether, academic, personal or career. As a result, Barry's CARE Center offers family counseling and support services to families of the C.R.O.P. students each year with a goal to eliminate barriers to school achievement and facilitate academic and personal success.

C.R.O.P. also serves an educational and training program for ADSOE Counseling and other mental health university students who will eventually enter areas of counseling and mental health practice. It is designed to develop and enhance the necessary counseling clinical skills (group, individual, family, and psycho-educational sessions) as well as address those areas of content and practice related to serving educationally disadvantaged, low-income at-risk youth and families.
