Student Managed Investment Fund
The Barry University Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) is a co-curricular, student-initiated, project that provides an unparalleled opportunity for Barry University students to gain hands-on experience managing a real investment portfolio. The SMIF serves to bridge the gap between the classroom and real-world while allowing students to make real-time decisions. Moreover, the structure of the project allows Barry University's students to engage in meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships with the South Florida business community.
The fund's main purpose is to provide student members with practical experience to complement theories and concepts learned in the classroom. Under faculty guidance, students involved in the fund obtain a better understanding of capital markets and securities analysis. Partnerships established between Barry University's SMIF and the business community exposes students to current investment methods and platforms. This exposure to portfolio and risk management methods accelerates the learning process for students looking to enter South Florida's business community.
