Field Education Manual
Welcome to Barry School of Social Work’s Field Education. Field Education oversees the field practicum component of the social work curriculum. Field education begins in the senior year for BSW students and in the first semester for all 60-credit and 32-credit MSW students. All BSW and foundation MSW students develop their theoretical understanding of social work practice and gain a better perspective on the social context of various populations locally, nationally and internationally prior to entry into the field agencies. Field Education allows students the opportunity to take knowledge and apply it in practice under the supervision of a trained social worker.
The Field Manual represents collaboration between social work faculty, social work students and the field community to ensure a successful field education program. The Field Manual describes field education in the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) Programs. It was developed to enhance the field learning experience and provide students and Field Educators with guidelines as to Field Education’s policies and procedures. The Field Manual should enhance the learning experience, and support students and Field Educators throughout the field practicum. Please note that the Field Manual is reviewed annually and the field policies, procedures and guidelines may be subject to change without advance notice.
Field Education extends a special thank you to the Florida Field Consortium for their unwavering support and rich feedback in the process of developing this Field Manual.
