Social Work Helper Launches First Global Virtual Summit on World Social Work Day

On March 19-20, 2018, Social Work Helper (SWHELPER) will be hosting the Global Social Welfare Digital Summit, a virtual conference for helping professionals within the human services, social work, mental health, healthcare, and social justice community.

The Summit will be hosted live from Barry University School of Social Work in Miami Shores, Florida.

SWHELPER is dedicated to providing information, resources, and entertainment related to social work, social justice, and social good. The audience is comprised of academics, policymakers, social workers, students, practitioners, helping professionals, caregivers and people looking for information to help themselves or loved ones.

“By utilizing technology, we can help facilitate conversations with global leaders as well as increase engagement with each other despite our geographical locations”, says social worker Deona Hooper, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Social Work Helper.

The summit will bring together interdisciplinary experts and advocates from across the globe. Presenters will focus on topics affecting outcomes for children and families including keynote speaker Daisy Baez a former member of the Florida House of Representatives. Aside from being a politician, Baez is a trained social worker and the Director of the Dominican Healthcare Association of Florida.

Representatives from United Nations Women, Red Cross, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, UnitedHealthcare, Foster Care Alumni of America, and VolunteerMatch among others are presenting throughout the summit.

Attendees will get the chance to learn from industry experts as well as those who have been personally affected by the social safety net system. Social Workers will also be able to earn 14 continuing education credits contact hours approved by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). When asked about why service users and professionals are speaking at the same conference Social Work Helper Founder, Deona Hooper, stated, “It is important for us to share our knowledge and experiences with each other, but it is just as important if not more for us to listen to the people we are tasked to serve.”
