Barry’s Dr. Alicea earns Social Work Educator of the Year Award

The National Association of Social Workers has awarded Michael J. Alicea, Ed.D., with the 2020 NASW-FL Miami-Dade Social Work Educator of the Year Award. Dr. Alicea is the Visiting Assistant Professor in Barry University’s School of Social Work. This is the second year in a row that a Barry University School of Social Work professor has been a recipient of this award. 

Dr. Alicea has presented at numerous national conferences on topics related to diversity in marriage and family therapy, clinical social work, PTSD, suicide awareness and prevention, and has written and published multiple articles in professional peer-reviewed journals. In addition, he has more than two decades of clinical experience.

To receive the Social Work Educator of the Year Award, recipients must make a significant contribution to social work education, demonstrate outstanding leadership, contribute to a positive image for the social work profession, and take risks to achieve outstanding results on behalf of social work students, among other criteria.

The annual awards ceremony will be held Saturday, March 14.
