Areas of specialization: Gerontological social work, medical social work, and narrative practice orientations.
Dr. Lacey received her PhD and MSW from the State University of New York at Albany. She also received a MEd from the University of Vermont. Prior to receiving her PhD, she worked as a case manager in an area agency on aging, a long term care ombudsman, a hospice social worker, and a research social worker.
Dr. Debra Lacey, Associate Professor of Social Work, School of Social Work, most recently published “Investigating social work students’ perceptions of elders’ vulnerability and resilience” with Dr. Michael N. Kane and Dr. Diane Green in Social Work in Mental Health, July, 2009; co-presented with Dr. Sharron Singleton a series of workshops for the Miami Area Geriatric Education Center in the spring of 2009. Workshops included “The Context of Aging and Social Work Practice,” and “Practice with Issues Related to Dementia.” Dr. Lacey’s other publications in peer-reviewed journals have focused on dementia care, end-of-life decision-making, and social work in long term care.
