Barry University Receives $100,000 grant for podiatric medical scholarships

Miami (March 29, 2019) — Bako Medical Education Foundation Inc. has awarded a $100,000 grant to Barry University for scholarships to deserving students in its School of Podiatric Medicine. Funding from the Bako Medical Education Foundation will provide scholarships to students pursuing careers in podiatric and podiatric dermatological fields of study. The multi-year grant is subject to certain conditions.

The School of Podiatric Medicine’s main purpose is to graduate competent podiatric physicians qualified to enter post-graduate training. Barry University’s School of Podiatric Medicine, founded in 1985, is one of only nine podiatric medicine schools in the nation and the only one in the Southeastern United States. In April 2018, seniors in Barry University’s Podiatric Medicine program achieved a 100 percent passing rate on both the written and the clinical APMLE Part II exams.

“We are pleased to receive a generous grant for scholarships from the Bako Medical Education Foundation. The support from the Foundation provides academic resources for our aspiring podiatrists for years to come,” said Barry University President Sister Linda Bevilacqua, OP, Ph.D.

“The Foundation is pleased to provide this grant to Barry University,” said Steven J. Berlin, DPM, FACFAS, a foundation board member and grants committee chair at the Bako Medical Education Foundation. “Barry University is an important educational and training institution for our future clinicians. We are honored to play a small role to further this important endeavor.”
