Barry University Graduating Medical Students Participate in Virtual Hippocratic Oath Ceremony

(MIAMI, FL) On Friday, May 1st Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine graduating students took the Hippocratic Oath during a virtual ceremony. Typically part of commencement exercises, the administration of the oath moved online due to the global pandemic.

Dr. Bryan Caldwell, Dean of the School, led the soon-to-be graduates in the time-honored tradition during which new doctors vow to uphold the standards of their profession. Though not a requirement to practice, the Oath of Hippocrates is customary at Barry’s School of Podiatric Medicine graduations.

Of the decision to hold a virtual ceremony, Dr. Caldwell said, “We wanted to be sure our students could take part in this important rite of passage in front of family, friends and faculty, despite the health crisis and the need for social distancing. The message in this important oath will guide them throughout their careers.”

The 45 medical students will become doctors on May 9, when Barry University President Dr. Mike Allen officially confers their degree during another virtual ceremony.
