On June 14, 2012, Six 6 students from Barry University represented the School of Social Work at the NASW Florida state conference in Ft Lauderdale, FL. In its inaugural year, students were asked to submit poster presentations representing their work while in a social work program. All schools and programs in the state of Florida were invited to participate and each school selected 2 presentations (one BSW, one MSW). This year, our BSW student representative was Chelsea Baker and she presented a poster
based on a class assignment assessing the need for fair trade products at Barry University's Miami campus. The MSW student representatives were Margaret Kirill, Tanya Haynes, Kristen Sarantos, Verdelle Dill and Tashonne Timson and they presented a poster of a systematic review of the most effective community violence intervention programs. The students were mentored by Dr. Eva Nowakowski, Site Coordinator/Assistant Professor at the Palm Beach campus. Our students joined 5 other schools who also had their
students present a poster of their work.
The Thursday evening event attracted more than 150 conference attendees who were able to review the students' work and ask them questions pertaining to their projects. The attendees enjoyed hor'derves, sponsored in part by Barry University School of Social Work. We are Barry proud of our students as they did an excellent job representing the School of Social Work.
