Paulina Martinez, PhD graduate student: “ I graduated from the University of Houston with a BS in Psychology. After working for a few years in the field, I realized that I wanted to be a social worker. I graduated with my MSW from Florida International University in 1992, and became an LCSW in 1994. My practice experience includes child welfare, working with emotionally disturbed children, and adult mental illness among other. My goal after completing my PhD is to teach in a School of Social Work.”

Bertha Bernstein, MSW graduate student: “ I graduated from the University of Florida in 1974 with a BA in Anthropology. I have worked in the social service field for 20 years. I am now attending Barry School of Social Work program. The admissions component of the school accepted my work experience in allowing me to attend the Masters program.”

Opree O. Joyner, MSW graduate student: “ 46 year old , S, black male who graduated from the Ohio State University in 1978 with a BS in Psychology. I return to school in 2000 to pursue my Masters in Social Work. After 20+ years working in the mental health field. I have dedicated my life to help individuals and families empower themselves. I plan to utilize professional training to promote policy changes in the mental health arena.”
