Teaching Appointments
Barry University School of Social Work appoints experienced, highly regarded adjunct faculty to deliver selected elements of its MSW and BSW curricula. Doctoral students, by virtue of admission criteria, customarily meet this definition of the experienced practitioner. In addition to possessing practice knowledge and skills, doctoral students aimed toward roles in social work education are motivated, invested prospective adjunct faculty. The School prioritizes doctoral students in the selection of adjunct faculty and reimburses them accordingly, and further prioritizes students who have completed the required course, SW 750, Social Work Education.
Doctoral students can elect a teaching practicum (SW 781). Following the required course in Social Work Education, doctoral candidates may plan a teaching practicum that includes mentorship and capacity-building for the teaching role. Teaching practica ordinarily involve the doctoral candidate in the delivery of the MSW and/or BSW curriculum in collaboration with a faculty mentor. Other social work education functions, such as advisement, or educational evaluation, may be included in a teaching practicum plan. Students who have elected a teaching practicum are further prioritized for adjunct teaching roles.
Students with an interest in adjunct teaching should contact the School’s Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, who oversees faculty assignments and the course schedules in the MSW and BSW programs.
No financial aid application process is required for students seeking adjunct teaching appointments.
