The Office of Campus Recreation and
Wellness
The
Office of Campus Recreation and Wellness at Barry is based on the
philosophy of wholesome recreation and the right to play. By providing
students, faculty, and staff with a well-rounded program, a safe
environment, and a chance to challenge themselves, there is "something
for everyone." Recreation at Barry encourages all constituents
to become involved in an activity of their choice. Recreation serves
as an opportunity to meet new people and develop a lifestyle of
fun and fitness.
Barry University has been a member of the National Intramural and
Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) since 1995.
NIRSA is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to the
establishment and development of quality intramural/recreational
sports and fitness programs. Founded in 1950, the organization's
membership has evolved to form a network of highly-trained professionals
in the recreational sports field throughout the United States, Canada,
and other countries around the world. NIRSA now serves as the leading
advocate for excellence in recreational sports programming and services.
The organization's rapidly growing membership is comprised of more
than 2,500 professional members. The major professional responsibilities
of the NIRSA membership include the administration of intramural
sports, fitness programming, recreational facility operations, fiscal
and personnel management, sports clubs, outdoor recreation, and
wellness programs.
