The Office of Mission Engagement (OME) collaborates with university departments and community partners to create transformational experiences that support the ongoing development of current and future leaders of Barry's mission. Through education, reflection, dialogue, OME facilitates a deeper understanding of Barry's Mission and Core Commitments for students, faculty and staff. We believe Barry's values are essential to mission effectiveness and institutional excellence as called for in the University’s strategic agenda. Guided by our Catholic, Dominican identity and Adrian Dominican foundation, we invite all students, faculty and staff to participate in these University traditions that strengthen our institutional commitment to Learn, Reflect, Serve.

Founders’ Week

The Founders’ Week tradition celebrates Barry’s history, Catholic, Dominican identity and Adrian Dominican foundation. Through scholarly and joyful events, we highlight the University’s faithfulness to its Mission and Core Commitments.

Peace Week

Peace Week is a celebration of Barry's commitment to "foster peace and non-violence." Held annually in September, programs and events are offered throughout the week to engage students, faculty and staff in reflection, advocacy and interfaith activities.

Earth Week

Earth Week highlights Barry's commitment to "recognize the sacredness of the Earth" with a series of annual events that bring faculty, staff, and students together to celebrate our common home and promote sustainability efforts on campus and in the local community.

Mission Town Halls

Born out of a commitment to collaborative service and learning, the purpose of the Mission Town Hall series is to offer members of the Barry University community an informal opportunity to share their experiences and understanding of the university’s mission and core commitments. Students, faculty, staff, and administrators are invited to listen to the experiences others in the community and how it relates to their lives on campus.

Barry’s Ecological Sustainability Team

Barry’s Mission and Core Commitments call us to “recognize the sacredness of Earth” and “engage in meaningful efforts toward social change.” Barry's Ecological Sustainability Team (BEST) addresses environmental issues and increases sustainability throughout all of the Barry University campuses and facilities. All faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend one of the committee’s monthly meetings.

Environmental Leadership Experience

A two week experiential program for Barry University and Siena Heights students to learn about sustainable agricultural ecosystems in Adrian, Michigan. Through the lens of environmental stewardship, the program offers hands-on activities at the Adrian Dominican Motherhouse Permaculture site, with service trips and day trips to local points of interest. Students selected to participate in this summer experience are expected to implement sustainability initiatives at their universities upon completion of the two week program.

Student Mission Leaders

The Office of Mission Engagement selects and trains students each year to serve as ambassadors of the University’s mission through serving on committees and planning programs that foster a mission-centered student experience.
