The 2013-2014 Mission Engagement Lunch series offers opportunities to deepen our shared understanding of Barry’s Mission Statement and Core Commitments. Fr. Mark Wedig, OP, PhD, one of the “Commentary” authors, will facilitate the January 28th conversation. This date was chosen to highlight the University’s Dominican heritage on the Feast Day of St. Thomas Aquinas. A 13th century Dominican Friar, philosopher, and theologian, Aquinas is also the patron of Catholic universities, colleges, and schools.
Attendees will gain a personal understanding of the core values of the Catholic tradition that infuse Barry’s identity and inform our varied roles and daily activities. Mission Integration Council members will serve as table facilitators. This workshop will be streamed to all campuses. http://live.barry.edu

First published in 2009 by the Departments of Campus Ministry and of Theology and Philosophy and adopted as a university-wide text in 2010, “Mission Statement and Core Commitments: A Commentary” proposed to explore the meaning and spirit of three essential elements of life and ministry at Barry University: Catholic identity, Dominican heritage, and Adrian Dominican foundation. The purpose of the Commentary was threefold: to inform the University community of the guiding principles of the Mission and Core Commitments, to motivate the University community to embrace these principles, and to enhance the ability of the University community to put these principles into practice.
