Barry's Center for Community Service Initiatives joins City of Hollywood for Black History Month events

The City of Hollywood African American Advisory Council (AAAC), in coordination with Barry University’s Center for Community Service Initiatives and Liberia Economic and Social Development Inc. (LES), will host two Black History Month events on Feb. 8 and Feb. 22.

The events include lectures and spoken word competitions. The competition is titled, “The Talented 10th Poetry Slam,” and additional information is available at hollywoodfl.org/slam.

Wednesday, Feb. 8 

  • Reception in the Lobby including food: 5–5:45 p.m.
  • Opening Remarks: 5:45–6 p.m.
  • “The History of Education in the Black Community” with Dr. Velmarie L. Albertini:6–6:45 p.m.
  • “The Talented 10th Poetry Slam”: 7–8:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 22

  • Reception in the Lobby including food: 5–6 p.m.
  • “Educating for the New Workplace” with Dr. Phyllis Scott:  6–6:45 p.m.
  • “The Talented 10th Poetry Slam”: 7–8:30 p.m.
  • Closing Remarks: 8:30–9 p.m.
