Message from the President regarding the death of our Barry student

Very late Sunday night, we learned that freshman student, Priscilla Torres, was a victim of a homicide in the city of Miami. At this time, her death remains an open investigation with the City of Miami Police Department.

Words fail to express the shock and deep sorrow that we, her Barry family, are experiencing. However, we cannot imagine the profound heartache and anguish her parents and family members are suffering. As we mourn the tragic death of our student, we offer sympathy, prayers and comfort to her family, friends, classmates, faculty and everyone who loved her and shared her young life. Our University counselors and Campus Ministry team are available to all students who may need support:

Counseling and Psychological Services office is in Landon 105 and office extension is x3950.

Campus Ministry offices are behind Cor Jesu Chapel and office extension is x3650.

Members of our faculty and staff who would like or need support, may contact Aetna Resources for Living to utilize Employee Assistance Benefits at 1-877-398-5816.

We are cooperating with the investigation underway by the City of Miami Police Department.  If you have any information that would assist with this open investigation, please call the Barry Silent Witness tip line at 305-899-3335.

Any questions or concerns regarding this matter should be directed to the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs – 305-899-3085.
