What is Multicultural Affairs?

Multicultural Affairs is a branch of the Student Activities Office, located in the Landon Student Union in room 206. The Goal of Multicultural Affairs is to create an environment of acceptance, equality, and inclusion for all persons regardless of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender or religion, through the channels of advocacy, education, celebration and community building.

Purpose Statement:

The purpose of Multicultural Affairs is to foster a more diverse campus community by supporting students that have been historically underrepresented and underserved because of their ethnic/racial background, gender, religion, or sexual orientation, to succeed both academically and socially. By providing resources, advocacy and implement programs that celebrate, educate, raise awareness and create opportunities for intercultural exchanges, Multicultural Affairs is working to ensure a more diverse learning environment for all students at Barry University.

The Four Major Functions of Multicultural Affairs

Student Advocacy

If any student feels as though they have been discriminated against by another students staff or faculty member because of their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or sexual orientation; they should meet with the Coordinator of Multicultural Affairs to remedy the situation.

Develop and Implement Diversity Programs and Initiatives

Working with the Multicultural Leadership Cabinet, the Multicultural Affairs coordinator develops and implements programs that celebrate educate and raise awareness about the various diverse cultures that make up our Barry community. Multicultural Affairs also provides workshops and trainings that increase cross cultural understanding.

Provide Diversity Resources for the Barry University Community

Multicultural Affairs works with student organizations and university staff and faculty to ensure that all services provided are inclusive of all members of our multicultural community. The Multicultural Resource Center provides information on fellowship, scholarship and internship and research opportunities for targeted populations.

Multicultural Affairs provides leadership opportunities for students. Through the Multicultural Leadership Cabinet.
