Scott F. Smith, Ph.D.
Vice President for Student Affairs

Scott F. Smith has been with Barry University since August 2011. He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from The University of the South, a master's dual degree in adult and community college education and counselor education with an emphasis on student development from North Carolina State University, and a Ph.D. in higher education administration with an emphasis on leadership and organizational development from The Ohio State University. As Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Smith has responsibility for all departments within the Division of Student Affairs.

Eileen McDonough, Ed.D.
Associate Vice President for Student Affairs

Eileen McDonough has been at Barry University since 1970 and has served in various positions in Academic and Student Affairs. She holds a bachelor of art from Chestnut Hill College, masters degrees from Marquette University and Barry University, and a doctoral degree in higher education administration from Nova University. Dr. McDonough also serves as the NCAA Faculty Athletic representative and holds the rank of professor in the School of Education.

In her role as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. McDonough oversees:

• Center for Counseling and Psychological Services
• Office of Disability Services
• Student Health Center

Maria Luisa Alvarez, Ph.D.
Associate Vice President for Student Affairs

Maria Luisa Alvarez has been at Barry since 1987 and served in the Division of Institutional Advancement until 1992 when she joined the Division of Student Affairs as the director of the Department of Housing and Residence Life. Dr. Alvarez was named Associate Vice President for Student Affairs in July 2000 and Dean of Students in July 2005. She holds a bachelor of science degree from Georgetown University, an MBA from Nova Southeastern University, and a Ph.D. in educational leadership here at Barry University. In her role as Dean of Students, Dr. Alvarez oversees the university's judicial system, is a student advocate and directs programs that promote learning and personal development.

In her role as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Alvarez oversees:

• Department of Student Involvement and Engagement
• Office of International and Multicultural Programs
• The De Porres Center for Community Service
  

Janet Dowd
Administrative Assistant III

Janet Dowd has been at Barry since January 2004. Ms. Dowd serves as Administrative Assistant III and coordinates the administrative staff of the Vice President for Student Affairs and the departments within the division. Ms. Dowd has many years of experience in administrative and clerical assistance.

AnaMaria Rodriguez
Administrative Assistant I

AnaMaria Rodriguez has been at Barry since April 2010. Ms. Rodriguez earned an associate degree from Hillsborough Community College. She serves as Administrative Assistant I for the administrative staff of the Vice President for Student Affairs.
