Outdoor Adventure Series

The Adventure Series serves the educational, recreational, and developmental needs of the Barry University community by utilizing human-powered outdoor adventure pursuits, experiential education methods, and the natural environment. The program provides opportunities for challenging experiences in outdoor settings while promoting a responsible and sustainable land-use ethic. In doing so, Adventure Explorers can address individual recreational needs as well as provide out-of-classroom academic support experiences. Students are encourage to discover the thrilling adventures of South Florida such as sailing, hiking, rock climbing, scuba diving, kayaking, horseback riding & more…

Fall 2011

Discover SCUBA:

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to SCUBA dive? At this interactive demonstration, students are able to experience what it is like to use SCUBA equipment underwater! Facilitators from Barry University’s own Diving program will be on hand to expose students to the industry and provide instruction on basic techniques.

Paddleboarding: Matheson Hammock Excursion

Would you like a nature tour and an easy workout all in one? Here’s the perfect trip for you. Paddleboarding is the hottest adventure sport around. It gently works out every major muscle group in your body and trains your sense of balance. Combine it with a relaxed naturalist-led exploration of the waters off Matheson Hammock and our local turtle grass flats and mangrove shoreline, providing habitat and shelter for lobsters, parrot fish and South Florida’s other small creatures – a tour made in heaven! Plus, you won’t have to worry about getting to the gym later.

Horseback Riding: The Bar-B-Ranch!

An empty horse is waiting for you at the Bar-B-Ranch! Come learn how to properly ride a horse and take the most beautiful scenic horseback riding tour in South Florida. This beautiful preserve affords riders and other nature lovers to see a glimpse of "Old Florida." The one hundred and sixty acre park boasts one of the last remaining oak hammocks in Broward County. Trip leaves from the Landon Student Union outside of the University Bookstore at 9:00am.  Participants need to bring the following items to the clinic: Sneakers (no open toe shoes), blue jeans/ shorts, t-shirt, sunscreen, and proper outdoor attire. (no refunds)

X-Treme Rock Climbing:

X-TREME Rock Climbing Center of Miami is South Florida’s premier full service rock climbing center offering indoor rock climbing, rock climbing instruction, full exercise facility and spacious Yoga facility.

With over 14,000 square feet of climbing, X-treme Rock Climbing has many amenities that make our facility one of the top climbing gyms in the country. You will find that there's something here for everyone. The roofs and overhangs add a challenge for experienced climbers, while our USA Climbing Certified route setters also create routes suited to the beginner as well.

These routes are changed frequently so there is something new for you to climb often! For those of you who want to build finger strength, we have finger boards and campus boards.

Don’t have climbing gear? Not a problem, we have a pro-shop where you can buy your own gear or rent equipment for the day. With a recent addition of 7,000 square feet, we offer yoga classes, a fitness center, wireless internet connection, and other amenities you must experience for yourself, so come on in and climb with us!
