Service Learning

Service learning is structured into Barry’s Theology 201: “Faith, Beliefs and Traditions.” If you enroll in a service-learning section, you will have the opportunity to work 10 hours at a local community service organization or program based on your individual talents, experiences, and academic major. Your hands-on experience at the site will be integrated with theological concepts presented in the course through your final paper. Throughout this process, you will be guided by your instructor and the Director of the Service Learning Program.

Placement sites in the Service Learning Program include:

  • Villa Maria Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
  • Shake-A-Leg Miami
  • North Miami Foundation for the Elderly
  • Arts Alliance Children’s After-School Program
  • Oleta River State Park
  • Miami Rescue Mission
  • Additional sites facilitated by the Hands On Miami organization.
