January 14, 2008, 7:00 pm: ELIZABETH A. JOHNSON, CSJ, PH.D., Distinguished Professor of Theology at Fordham Universityand author of She Who Is: The Mystery of God in Feminist Theological Discourse will be conferred the Yves Congar Award by Barry University's Department of Theology and Philosophy. Johnson will present “The Banquet of the Creed” to assembled faculty, staff and students.
Monday, Nov 19: “Christians Coming Together” A panel comprised of four respected academic and religious leaders within the local South Florida community discussed issues that are dividing Christians around the world, and made suggestions for ways to better foster a spirit of Christian unity.
September 2007: Gloria Schaab, Ph.D., SSJ, assistant professor of Systematic Theology and director of the Master of Arts program in Practical Theology, has released her newest book titled The Creative Suffering of the Triune God: An Evolutionary Theology.
August 2007: New HIV/AIDS pandemic TEXT to be released in 2008. The book is being edited by Mary Jo Iozzio, Professor of Moral Theology, Barry University, with Mary Doyle Roche, Assistant Professor, College of the Holy Cross, and Elsie Maria Miranda, Assistant Professor of Practical Theology, Barry University. Entitled, Calling for Justice throughout the World: Catholic Women Theologians Considering the Moral Ramifications of the HIV/AIDS Pandemic, the book contains essays from 29 contributors in all six geographical regions, bringing the global of the pandemic to the fore.
July 2007: As NCAN closes office, Dr. Elsie Miranda, Barry University and Fr. Father Chris Ponet of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles set plans for a new ecumenical HIV/AIDS coalition to re-organize and strategize for the future of HIV/AIDS ministry and education.
April 2007: Dr. Pedro Blas González’s book, Ortega's 'The Revolt of the Masses' and the Triumph of the New Man was released by Algora Publishing. González demonstrates the relevance and importance of Ortega y Gasset's thought for today's world, showing, for instance, how Ortega's categories like "mass man" and "decadence," have been vindicated by today's spiritual, moral and cultural decay.
April 2007: Dr. Edward Sunshine's new book, A Just Defense of the Natural Freedom of Slaves: All Slaves Should be Free (1682) by Epifanio de Moirans: A Critical Edition and Translation of Servi Liberi seu Naturalis Mancipiorum Libertatis Iusta Defensio, was recently released by Mellen Press. This translation and critical commentary opens up a new avenue of inquiry for scholars and those interested in abolitionism, colonialism, and the early history of Cuba. John T. Ford, C.S.C., Catholic University of America, calls it “an enriching exploration of the past, but also a conscientization in the present.”
