If you have a strong interest in the natural sciences as well as the desire for close patient contact and direct interaction with physicians and other health care professionals, diagnostic medical ultrasound might be a great career choice for you. This major requires a sound education in the basic sciences, especially the areas of biology, chemistry, and physics.

As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will function as a health care professional trained to perform procedures using sonic energy to visualize data that will aid the physician in the diagnosis of disease and injury. The field is a broad one, with a number of specialization opportunities.
