BU receives recognition by National Orientation Directors Association

 

 

 

Miami Shores, Fla. – Barry University’s Center for Leadership and Transition Services has been recognized by the National Orientation Director’s Association for outstanding clothing item used during orientation. Along with this recognition BU was also recognized for outstanding newsletter that was created by two BU students.

The t-shirts created were used by the Orientation staff and worn during this year’s fall 2007 orientation. Adriana Rullan, a Graphic Design Major at BU developed the concept and designed this year’s orientation t-shirt with the feedback and guidance of BU Associate Professor of Graphic Design, Tom Rockwell.

In addition to the orientation t-shirt design, Barry was also recognized for its outstanding Student Orientation Newsletter, which was written by two BU Student Directors; Vanecia Hazel, who is majoring in Pre-Law and Vanessa Lezeau, a Social Work major.

The newsletter is mailed out to all new, incoming first-time freshmen and transfer students at the start of August to help them prepare for their arrival to campus and Fall Orientation.

Dana Ponsky, Director of the Center for Leadership and Transition Services, along with Gina Joseph, Assistant Director, attended the conference in Dallas, Texas to accept their award.

“We were all really excited to hear we were being recognized by NODA for Outstanding Orientation Newsletter and Clothing Item,” Ponsky said. “Our students put in a lot of hard work and effort into coordinating the Fall Orientation program. To see their accomplishments recognized on a national level has been very rewarding.”

The National Orientation Directors Association provides services related to new student programs in institutions of higher education. NODA views orientation as an ongoing and multi-faceted transition process, which involves academic, intellectual, and personal development.
