Barry Hosts Podiatric Surgical Fixation Workshop
Miami Shores, Fla. - Podiatric Medicine students at Barry are better able to understand fractures, deformities and reconstruction of the human skeleton thanks to a recent hands-on experience provided by Synthes.
The company, recognized world-wide, develops and produces instruments, implants, and biomaterials for the surgical correction of the skeleton and soft tissues of the lower limb.
“We are very grateful to Synthes for providing this important seminar at Barry,” said Dr. Thomas Merrill, a professor of surgery for the School of Podiatric Medicine. “This type of equipment is very expensive and this type of hands-on experience is indispensible for our students.”
The fixation workshop provided a first-hand opportunity for third-year students to work with cutting edge hardware at individual, fully equipped, workstations at Barry’s main campus in Miami Shores.
Podiatric medical school students and faculty thank Dr. Josh Bernard, Dr. Kyle Waggoner and Dr. Guillermo Donati along with their staffs for chairing the course and leading the seminars and labs. Special thanks are extended to Synthes and their representatives for sharing their expertise with Barry students and faculty who hope to make this a regular event.
