Students turn out lights, gather for glow-in-the-dark activities for Earth Hour

 

Miami will be among 195 American cities to shut off the lights between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. tomorrow [March 28, 2009] for Earth Hour 2009.

And, with events going on throughout the nation and the globe, students, faculty and staff at Barry University will also be participating in the international “vote for earth” tomorrow.

Students are asked to shut off their lights from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. and gather outside the Landon Student Union, where lights will also be shut off for Earth Hour. With minimal lighting and electricity, the Department of Housing and Residence Life will host activities for students, including performances by the Barry Gospel Choir, glow-in-the-dark crafts and jewelry making, and glow-in-the-dark football and soccer.

More than 2,400 cities in 82 countries have signed up to participate in this year’s Earth Hour – turning off the lights globally on landmarks such as the Great Pyramids in Egypt, the Acropolis in Greece, the Las Vegas strip and the Eiffel Tower.
