Miami Shores, Fla. – On Monday, Oct. 5, Barry University will welcome award-winning playwright Michael McKeever, who will debut the reading of his newest short drama “Lost” and perform other readings from a selection of his short stories.

The event, taking place at 7:30 p.m. in the Gato Gallery on the second floor of Thompson Hall, will mark McKeever’s first performance at Barry’s Miami Shores campus. Several of South Florida’s top theatrical talents are also scheduled to appear at the event, including Lela Elam, Amy London, John Manzelli, Chaz Mena, Hugh Murphy and David Perez-Ribada.

With wit, insight and a healthy dose of his quirky sense of humor, McKeever continues to entertain audiences with his comedies, dramas and short stories throughout America and Europe. Incorporating a wide variety of styles and subject matter, McKeever’s plays explore every aspect of the human condition. From deep-rooted prejudices of small town America to the delicate dysfunction of society’s wealthiest homes, he creates stories that entertain and enlighten. Productions of his full-length plays include “Open Season,” “Melt,” “37 Postcards” and more.

McKeever is the recipient of three Carbonell Awards and has been honored with a National Endowment for the Arts Residency Grant. He has also been a three-time finalist for Humana Fest’s nationally renowned Heideman Award. McKeever resides in South Florida and is a member of the Dramatists Guild and Actors' Equity.

Admission to the event is free. For more information, call 305-899-3291 or e-mail jmanzelli@mail.barry.edu.
