Sole Supports donates to Yucatan Crippled Children’s Project at Barry University

Miami Shores, Fla. – Barry University’s School of Podiatric Medicine received $12,000 from Dr. Ed Glaser of Sole Supports, Inc., (Lyles, Tennessee) for the Yucatan Crippled Children’s Project (YCCP). The contribution subsidizes costs for medical supplies and equipment.

“This gift from Dr. Ed Glaser and Sole Supports is sincerely appreciated and will help us continue our mission to help poor crippled children to walk worldwide, one child at a time,” said Dr. Charles Southerland, founder and director of the YCCP.

The YCCP began July 4, 1996 when Southerland led a team of podiatric physicians on the first medical mission to Merida, Mexico to perform surgery on disadvantaged crippled children from the Yucatan Peninsula. Since then he has coordinated more than 70 trips, rendering treatment to more than 7,400 crippled children.

Over the years, dozens of doctors and students alike, train and assist in surgeries, logging in more than 23,500 volunteer hours – providing their expertise and time to the mission.

Glaser is a member of the Order of the Flame Society at Barry for previous donations of more than $10,000 for the Yucatan Crippled Children’s Project at the School of Podiatric Medicine.

“We are very grateful to Dr. Glaser and our many friends and benefactors for their generous contributions to our mission of providing podiatric medical care for indigent and medically underserved people,” said Dr. Jeffrey Jensen, dean and professor of podiatric medicine and surgery at Barry. “These young children will be able to run and play like their peers because of the Yucatan Project.”
