Barry alumna, Maria Donohue, one of five finalists for Miami-Dade Teacher of the Year

Five Miami-Dade County teachers have been chosen as finalists for the 2014 Miami-Dade County Teacher of the Year. Maria Donohue, a 2006 Barry graduate, has been selected as one of the finalists for the award.

Donahue is a biology and forensics teacher at Hialeah Gardens Senior High School. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in biology and a minor in chemistry. While attending Barry, Donohue worked as RISE tutor.

The four other finalists and their schools were: Bradley Sultz (iPreparatory Academy), Marshall Ruffo (Centennial Middle), Christine Napoles (Hialeah Middle), and Susan Castleman (Educational Alternative Outreach Program).

The award ceremony took place Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 6 p.m. at The Doubletree by Hilton Hotel & Miami Airport Convention Center during the Francisco R. Walker Miami-Dade County Teacher of the Year dinner.
