Students from 16 universities and colleges across the country converge on Barry’s campus this week (May 21-27) for fifth annual Preaching In Action Conference Miami Shores, Fla. – More than 50 students representing 16 colleges and universities across the country are converging on Barry’s main campus in Miami Shores this week for the fifth annual Preaching In Action Conference. The event takes place May 22 – May 27. These students come from diverse backgrounds and majors, but all come from Dominican institutions or ones that have a Dominican presence in their campus ministry program. While this is the fifth year for the conference, it is the first year Barry has hosted the event, which features several guest speakers and events. Over the course of the next five days, students and staff will be involved in seminars and group activities that shadow and teach the Dominican traditions. They will learn the importance of preaching through the arts, volunteerism and service. On Wednesday, May 23, students will learn the importance of responsibility to the environment in a lecture titled, “Preaching Eco-Justice,” which will be followed by a trip to the Miami Ecology Center. The conference will conclude on Sunday with a special Commissioning Liturgy at 9:15 a.m. in Barry’s Cor Jesu Chapel. During this special service, students reflect on what they have learned and vow to help make a difference in their world. The Preaching In Action Conference is organized by Sister Gina Fleming, OP, a Dominican sister from Amityville, NY. Sister Fleming will be present during the conference.
