Barry University Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month Through Fine Arts
MIAMI SHORES, Florida — Barry University’s Fine Arts department celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with productions on Oct. 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 7th at BU’s Cor Jesu Chapel, the Broad Theatre for the Performing Arts, and the Thompson Hall Dance Studio on the Miami Shores campus.
To kick off the celebration on Oct. 2nd at 7 p.m. in the Cor Jesu Chapel visiting instructor Dr. Martin Camacho, lecturer Dionisio Camacho, and lecturer Kristin Camacho will perform piano works by Jose Antonio Gil, Manuel Ponce, Ignacio Cervantes, Armengol and Prudencio Essa representing music from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba, and Venezuela. On Oct. 3rd at 10 a.m. “The History of Zumba”, in the Thompson Hall Dance Studio will feature a dance class and lecture representing Columbian, Brazilian and other Latin rhythms. Zumba is a very dynamic and exciting dance full of Latin and exotic music flavors. Art and Music from Spain presented by Dan Ewing, Art Historian and Dr. Alan Mason, pianist and lecturer; will continue on Oct. 5th, at 5 p.m. in the Cor Jesu Chapel followed by a lecture demonstration on the art work of Valazquez, Goya, Picasso, and music by De Falla, Obradors and others. The festivities will conclude on Oct. 7th at 4 p.m. in the Broad Center for the Performing Arts, with a Spanish and Cuban Zarzuela Extravaganza, featuring the work of Maria La O, Los Gavulanes, Lola Cruz, and Luisa Fernanda. Performers will include Masetro Alfredo Munar, BU professor Dr. Beverly Coulter, Hugo Marcos Rodriquez, the Barry University Choirs, and various guest artists.
