Barry’s Dr. Zuzana Zajickova receives National Science Foundation grant from DOE
MIAMI SHORES, Florida — Barry University professor of chemistry from the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Zuzana Zajickova has been awarded the National Science Foundation grant by the Department of Energy to conduct research this summer at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
Zajickova will work with Dr. Frank Svec at the Molecular Foundry user facility located in Berkeley, California. Zajickova’s grant provides funds for her summer appointment at the Molecular Foundry with additional funding for three Barry undergraduates to accompany her. During the grant period, which will cover the span of three years Zajickova and her research students will conduct research on monolithic media for use and application in high performance liquid chromatography. She plans to synthesis and characterize monolithic capillaries with nanolayer of polymer coating. The advantages of these newly synthesized monoliths are improved mechanical, thermal, and pH stability The National Science Foundation funds research and education in most fields of science and engineering. It does this through grants, and cooperative agreements to more than 2,000 colleges, universities, K-12 school systems, businesses, informal science organizations, and other research organizations throughout the United States. The Foundation accounts for about one-fourth of federal support to academic institutions for basic research. The NSF receives approximately 40,000 proposals each year for research, education and training projects, of which approximately 11,000 are funded. For more information contact Zajickova at 305-899-3238 or by e-mail at ZZajickova@mail.barry.edu.
