‘Financial missionary’ to present at Barry University for Wellness Day Feb. 25

Miami Shores, Fla. – With foreclosures and layoffs up, and savings and retirement portfolios down, many are looking for hope among our nation’s economic instability.
Kevin Cross, founder of one of South Florida’s largest Christian-based accounting firms, will bring his brand of “financial wellness” to an audience at Barry University next Wednesday, Feb. 25. Cross, who defines himself as a “financial missionary,” is also the founder of Cross Stewardship Ministries, through which he preaches faith-based financial management to churches and organizations throughout South Florida and the rest of the country.
His presentation, “Margin & Meaning” is part of the university’s larger Wellness Day celebrations taking place Wednesday, Feb. 25. The annual event celebrates and educates on all aspects of wellness – emotional, physical and intellectual – but will have a particular focus on financial wellness this year, given the current economic conditions.
Cross’s presentation combines the Biblical principles of money management with practical steps for handling finances in everything from negotiating payment plans with creditors to the Christian responsibility to pay one’s debt. The event culminates with what he labels a “credit card execution game show,” where participants will have the opportunity to grill, saw, blend, boil or toast their credit cards – symbolically destroying financial debt.
Cross’s presentation closes the day, which will also include a lunchtime presentation with Cross for faculty and staff, as well as a wellness vendor fair open to the campus and outside community from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
