Miami Shores, Fla. – On Wednesday, Dec. 2., the Community Learning Partnership (CLP) of Greater Miami Shores will welcome former United States Sen. Bob Graham to Barry University’s main campus. Graham, author of “America: the Owner’s Manual,” will deliver a lecture at 10 a.m. followed by a Q&A session at 10:30 and a book signing at 11. The event will take place in the Broad Center for the Performing Arts.

Also on hand for the event will be students from Archbishop Curley Notre Dame High School, Barry, Doctors Charter School, Miami County Day School, Miami Shores Presbyterian Church School and The Cushman School. Graham is scheduled to have breakfast with students at 9 a.m. Graham, a veteran politician, served as governor of Florida from 1979 to 1987 and as United States senator representing Florida from 1987 to 2005. Prior to his retirement from the Senate in 2005, Graham made an unsuccessful bid for the Democratic Party nomination in the 2004 presidential race. Since then, Graham has founded two centers that focus on training future political leaders.

The CLP of Greater Miami Shores was formed in 2008 by leaders of local businesses, organizations and educational institutions, both public and private, to serve as a catalyst for community engagement. The grass roots effort encourages local schools and community leaders to work together on important educational topics and events.

In support of this year’s theme, “Fostering Global Citizenship,” the CLP will host Graham, as well as several other speakers and events, throughout the 2009-2010 academic school year to encourage discussions and different perspectives about citizenship.
