MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry baseball team begins the 2013 regular season at home against the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes on Friday, Feb. 1 with the first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

The Buccaneers struggled out of the gate last spring but played some of their best ball down the stretch winning five of their last six including a three-game sweep of Florida Tech to finish above .500.

For the third consecutive season Barry will open up against the Hurricanes. Last spring Barry traveled up to Americus, Ga. and captured a pair of wins over Georgia Southwestern, including a 6-5 victory in the rubber-match to take the series.

The series continues for a single game on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 1:00 p.m. and concludes on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 12:00 p.m.

The opening day lineup should include many familiar faces like Michael Slabach in centerfield, Adrian English at second base and Luis Arrizurieta behind the dish with Sheehan Planas-Arteaga anchoring the middle of the lineup. Freshman sensation JC Cardenas should get the nod at shortstop with newcomers Tyler Kellmann and Zac Burger figuring their way into the Buccaneers’ lineup.

Fans are invited to participate in a pair of “Super Promotions” scheduled for the weekend baseball festivities. These include Super Bowl Bingo on Friday night and Super Bowl Trivia on Sunday afternoon.

Concessions “Dollar Daze” promotions will offer fans $1 hotdogs Friday, $1 peanuts Saturday and $1 soda on Sunday.

Live-stat and video broadcast is available through the Barry University athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.

The Buccaneer Broadcasting Network will carry all Barry baseball games this season with coverage starting just before the first pitch. To see the exact start time of every broadcast, click on the GameCentral logo located on the home page.
