WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. -- Barry University women's golf team shot 316-301 -- 617 in the opening two rounds of the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational Monday hosted by Rollins College.
After a first round in which the Buccaneers occupied the seventh spot on the team leaderboard following play in poor conditions on the par-72, 6,089-yard Tuscawilla Country Club course, Barry recovered to move up two spots while trimming 15 strokes of its team total in Round 2.
"I'm pleased with the way we bounced back in the second round in still pretty tough conditions," Bucs acting head coach Shannon Sykora said. "We put ourselves in a good position to move up the board tomorrow."
Taylor Babcock shot 79-74 -- 153, and is tied for 12th. Nicky Ferre shot 79-75 -- 154, and is tied for 14th. Francesca Perini is tied for 17th, following a 78-77 -- 155. Maria Paola Fiorio shot 81-75 -- 156, and is tied for 23rd. Daniela Murray is tied for 33rd at 159 after shooting 80-79.
Nova Southeastern leads the event with back-to-back 295s for a 590 through the second round, anchored by individual tournament leader Linnea Johansson's 1-under 71-72 -- 143. Sharks teammate Daniela Ortiz is tied for second, three strokes behind Johansson. St. Edward's Ryanne Haddow is also tied for second at 2-over 146.
NSU's Abbey Gittings is fourth at 147, while Lynn's Ellen Chambers and Florida Southern's Megan Kiley are fifth at 6-over 150.
Lynn is second in the team standings at 607, St. Edward's is third, two strokes in back of the Fighting Knights, and Florida Southern fourth at 611.
The final round is set for Tuesday morning.
