MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – For just the second time this season Barry University’s baseball team was shut out, falling to Palm Beach Atlantic 4-0 at Feinbloom field Friday night.

After turning in one outstanding performance after another, Billy Atkins struggled in what one could argue was his worst start of the season, yet the freshman struck out a career-high eight batters and managed to keep his team in the game.

Barry (26-18) dropped its second straight nonconference game as the Bucs offense struggled to put any pressure on the Sailfish. The Buccaneers managed just five hits off Nick Kovacs (6-4) who tossed a complete game shutout to earn his sixth win of the season.

The Sailfish (24-18) scored four runs on 11 hits, breaking the scoreless tie in the top of the third with a solo-shot to left-center. Palm Beach Atlantic added two more in the fourth and another in the fifth to build a 4-0 lead.

Barry’s top four hitters in the lineup each managed just one hit and the Bucs finished with five on the night.

Saturday, the Bucs will look to rebound with a pair of games slated to start at 12 p.m. to wrap up the three game series against the Sailfish. Live-stat and video broadcast will be available for both games as well as the senior ceremony in between the two games. The baseball program will honor nine graduating seniors for their hard work and dedication prior to the start of the first game at approximately 11:40 a.m.
