COLORADO SPRINGS – Women’s assistant basketball Emer Foley was one of a handful of recipients of a grant to attend the 2013 Ethnic and Minority Women in Coaching Leadership Conference to be held Nov. 5-7 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The goal is to arm ethnic and minority women with information to assist them in advancing up the coaching ladder and increase the pipeline of female coaches in head coaching positions.

“This is a great opportunity to meet other people like myself, minorities and women in athletics,” Foley said. “It’ll be a chance to network and enhance my leadership skills to advance in my profession. Obviously, the ultimate goal is to be a head coach and hopefully this will help me prepare to make that move.”

The conference is supported in part by a matching grant from the NCAA to provide professional and leadership development to ethnic and minority women.

The 2013 conference will begin with a keynote presentation at 4 p.m. on Nov. 5, followed by a welcome reception. The conference will continue with a full day of programming on Nov. 6, followed by a morning session through 11 a.m. on Nov. 7. All sessions will be held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

Featured speakers include:

  • 5-time Olympian Teresa Edwards
  • Wendy Borlabi, USOC Sport Psychologist
  • Deborah Hendrix, Leadership Development Professional
