MIAMI, Fla. -- Barry University students, faculty, and staff traveled to Florida’s Capitol to meet with state legislators and advocate for the university’s priorities during the 2015 Barry Days session on March 17 and 18.
During the two-day trip, six students and five staff members, including Sister Linda Bevilacqua, OP, PhD, met with various state representatives and senators to thank them for their support and discuss important educational topics.
Highlighting the discussion was the Florida Resident Access Grant (FRAG), a state-funded grant that provides tuition assistance to Florida full time, undergraduate students attending private, non-profit Florida colleges and universities. The FRAG program currently contributes $3,000 in tuition assistance to such students.
Other issues Barry advocated for included clinical equipment for The School of Podiatric Medicine, tuition assistance for graduate programs in The College of Health Sciences and The School of Social Work, and simulation equipment for The College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Barry took center stage at the Capitol Building on March 18 as the second-floor rotunda featured an impressive display showcasing the university its dedicated faculty and staff, and quality students.
The Barry University Alumni Association hosted a reception for Tallahassee-based members of the Barry community and invited Florida legislators. More than 75 alumni, students, faculty, staff, and guests were present to make valuable new connections.
