Barry University welcomes new Board of Trustees members

Barry University announces three new appointments to its Board of Trustees – two of whom are alumni – Tanya Davis, Dr. Daniel Bird, and Joyce Landry. Davis class of ‘83, serves as a partner of S. Davis & Associates, P.A., a firm that provides valuable auditing and accounting assistance to public and private businesses. Dr. Bird class of ‘03, counsels clients through several private clinical practices in Hutchinson Island, Fort Pierce, and Vero Beach, Florida. Landry is CEO of Landry & Kling Inc., a company that pioneered the planning of corporate events at sea.

The new members began serving on Barry’s board July 1, 2015. Their first official meeting takes place September 25, 2015.

Bussel, Barry University Board of Trustees Chairperson. “Daniel, Joyce, and Tanya each bring unique skills and experiences but all share a great commitment to contribute their great expertise and best judgment to the betterment of Barry University.”

About Tanya Davis

Tanya I. Davis serves as a partner of S. Davis & Associates, P.A. (SD&A) and has over thirty-one years of experience in auditing and accounting services. During those thirty-one years, she has provided public and private sector auditing for government agencies, municipalities, not-for-profit organizations, and commercial entities. Her passion resides in the firm’s philosophy to deliver the utmost quality and most responsive service possible to each and every client.

Davis has been with SD&A since 1997 and has become to be a proud partner at one of the largest minority-owned CPA firms in the Southeast United States. Davis is a member and past president of the Greater Miami chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc.

Davis is a Barry University alumna, graduating Cum Laude from Barry with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.

She and her husband, Shaun M. Davis, CPA, have three wonderful children. Their son followed in their footsteps and is a certified public accountant in Nashville. Their daughters attend college at Southern Methodist University and Elon University.

About Daniel Bird

Daniel Bird owns three private clinical practices in Hutchinson Island, Fort Pierce and Vero Beach, Florida where he counsels individuals and families suffering from addiction, codependency and grief. He also teaches numerous workshops, seminars and trainings on loss, death, divorces and other issues of grief. In addition to that, he is an adjunct professor at Indian River State College teaching course in human services, nursing, social work and social science.

Bird is a Barry University alumnus; he graduated from Barry with his second PhD, this one in clinical social work with a concentration in leadership, direct practice and teaching.

About Joyce Landry

Joyce Landry is CEO of Landry & Kling Inc., a company she and her partner, Jo Kling, formed in 1982. Landry & Kling Inc. was the first company to specialize in corporate events at sea.  They started the company on Madison Avenue in NYC with no clients and $18,000 in capital.  Today, they service clients around the world with gross sales of over $50 million.

Landry & Kling pioneered the use of cruise ships as floating hotels, and Joyce has been at the forefront of many projects involving dockside charters, including the Super Bowl 2005 in Jacksonville Florida, the 2007 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies, the 2009 Summit of the Americas in Trinidad, and was recently awarded the contract to place ships at the RIO Olympics in 2016.

Landry considers herself an adventurer and lifelong learner. At age 50 she learned to row, and, since then, has been competing in regattas around the country. She is also an avid adventure-traveler. Her two favorite adventures include: trekking solo in the Himalayas and marrying her husband, Gene, on the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in 2007.
