Memorial Mass for Sister John Karen Frei, OP, PhD

We shall gather as a university community to celebrate

and give thanks to God for our friend and colleague

Sister John Karen

and her life in ministry among us at a Memorial Mass

on Thursday, November 8, at 4 o’clock in the afternoon

in Cor Jesu Chapel.

Sister John Karen Frei, formerly known as Karen Rosa Frei, died on October 19, 2012, at her home in Miami Shores, Florida. She was 76 years of age and in the 46th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Sister John Karen was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, to John and Mary Frances (Reilly) Frei. She graduated from Emerson High School in Union City, New Jersey and received a bachelor of arts degree in botany from Douglas College in New Brunswick, New Jersey; a master of science degree in botany from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey; a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Miami in Miami, Florida; and a Master of Business Administration degree from Barry College (University) in Miami Shores, Florida.

Sister spent 45 years ministering at Barry College (University) in Miami Shores, Florida. She served as a teacher, an associate vice president, dean, and assistant to the provost, all at Barry.

Sister John Karen is survived by loving cousins.
