Alexis Leal ’94
Vice President, MCM
As Vice President for Munilla Construction Management (MCM) with more than 25 years of construction experience, Alexis Leal oversees the overall direction of MCM’s Florida Building Group with a special emphasis on preconstruction, estimating and strategic growth. MCM is a family-owned construction company specializing in general building and heavy civil construction with a vast expertise in educational facilities, roads and bridges, ports and airports, municipal government and utilities projects. He focuses on leading his team to exceed customer satisfaction by concentrating his efforts on creating exceptional levels of communication, safety and quality.
Leal started working in construction as a general laborer when he was 17, and learned the construction craft from the ground up. Throughout his career, he has spent tours in field operations, accounting, pre-construction, estimating, purchasing, marketing, MIS, and risk management – all while developing the well-rounded and unique skill sets that have molded him into the executive he is today. Active in his community and professional organizations, Leal has served on the Board of Directors of the Engineering Contractors Association of South Florida and served as its President, as well as the Board for the South Florida Association of General Contractors. He currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Broward County Chapter of the American Red Cross. He graduated from Barry University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management.
Leal was born and raised in Miami. After playing and honing his baseball skills at several local little leagues, he played high school baseball at Monsignor Edward Pace High School, where he was a three-time All Miami-Dade County selection and a State Champion. Leal started at Barry in 1989 after receiving an athletic scholarship to play baseball. In 1991, after a very productive season as team captain, he was named the Buccaneers’ baseball MVP. As a result of his efforts on and off the field, Leal also received Barry’s Male Athlete of the Year Award – an honor of which he is still very proud.
His hobbies include fishing, free diving, and landscape design. He remains a sports enthusiast who coaches youth football in Weston and takes great joy in watching his children play sports. An avid collector of palm trees, bromeliads, cycads and orchids, Leal also enjoys walking through his yard barefoot. He and his wife Maria “Cuqui” Leal have been married for 22 years and have four children: Ryan, currently a freshman at Florida State University; Evan, a senior at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School; Brendan, a 6th grader at St. David Catholic School; and Alexis Sarena – his princess – is a 4th grader at St. David Catholic School.
