Sister Maura Scholarship: In Celebration of 100 Years of Life

Sister Maura Scholarship: In Celebration of 100 Years of Life

My dear Barry College Alumna,

As one of the many alumnae who knew and loved Sister Maura Phillips, I write to share the exciting news that on April 25, Sister Maura will celebrate her 100th birthday. She is the oldest Adrian Dominican Sister and is as spunky and joyful as ever. She gravitates to a piano and breaks into song, playing her favorites from memory.

Sister Maura ministered at Barry College for 12 years, from 1951 through 1963. Perhaps you took a music class with her or were a member of the prestigious and popular Tara Singers. I thought that we (the Barry College “girls”) could let Sister Maura know how much she meant to us by sending her a birthday greeting. Her address at the Motherhouse is:

Sister Maura Phillips, OP
Adrian Dominican Sisters
1257 E. Siena Heights Drive
Adrian, MI 49221

If you would like to make a gift in honor of Sister Maura, you may do so by sending your donation to Barry in care of the Advancement Office at 11300 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33161. In the mid-1980s a scholarship was established in Sister Maura’s name. Please make the check payable to Barry University and designate its use for the Sister Maura Phillips Scholarship Fund. We use such scholarship funds to help hundreds of undergraduate students complete their Barry degree.

A card, a gift, always prayer. I shall be grateful if you join me in offering praise and thanksgiving to our loving God for the gift of Sister Maura and her generous and joyful ministry among us through song.

Blessings from your sister alumna,

Linda Bevilacqua, OP
