Weather Update: Hurricane Irma - Barry University Closure Notice

Weather Update: Hurricane Irma - Barry University Closure Notice

As a result of Hurricane Irma, Barry University announces that effective at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 6, all University operations will be closed.  All University operations — including St. Croix, Bahamas, Orlando and all other Barry locations throughout the State — will be closed Thursday and Friday and will remain so until further notice.

Additionally, in-state resident students are being asked to make arrangements to return home as soon as possible. We understand that this may mean you have to miss class on Wednesday. Students will not be penalized for missing class. Out-of-state resident students are also encouraged to make arrangements to leave campus as soon as possible.

If state or local emergency management authorities call for an evacuation of South Florida, out-of-state resident students who are not able to make arrangements will be transported to identified shelters in Miami-Dade County.

RAs will be reaching out to all resident students beginning this Tuesday evening asking where you intend to weather the storm and the best contact number where you can be reached. While resident students are making travel arrangements, dining services will be available.

We will continue to monitor Hurricane Irma and provide updates as decisions are made.

Barry University students and employees should monitor the barry.edu/prepare website, our Emergency Hotline at 305-899-4000 and local media outlets for the latest updates and notifications regarding closures and re-openings.
