Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology Dr. Jorge Valdes, DNP, CRNA, ARNP, was inducted April 26 into the Miami-Dade College 2106 Alumni Hall of Fame. Valdes teaches in Barry University’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
“I think what makes me a leader in my profession is my ability to stand up and speak, and to really say what needs to be said. I advocate for my profession constantly; I advocate for my patients,” said Valdes. “I feel that I am part of my community because I feel that, yes, Miami-Dade gave me a wonderful foundation for the rest of my life.”
In addition to his degree from Miami-Dade College, Valdes has a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Miami, a master’s of Nurse Anesthesia from the Mayo School of Health Sciences College of Medicine and doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Miami. He is also past president of the Florida Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
Valdes is active in the community, regularly participating in mission trips to Haiti with Baptist Hospital and to Guyana with Barry University.
With his induction, Valdes joins the ranks of other Miami-Dade College Alumni Hall of Famers, including: actor Andy Garcia, music industry mogul Emilio Estefan, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz, former Dolphins receiver Nat Moore, Carnival Chairman & CEO Micky Arison, and U.S. Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.
