Faculty, students present research at American Chemical Society National Meeting

Chemistry faculty and students from the Department of Physical Sciences presented research April 2-6 at the 253rd American Chemical Society National Meeting and Exposition in San Francisco, Calif.

Faculty and students (underlined) made their research presentations via posters. Topics and presenters included the following:

  • Aurora Burkus-Matesevac and Zuzana Zajickova, PhD — “Preparation of organo-silica monolithic columns for applications in capillary liquid chromatography using thiolene click reaction”

  • Diana Cordero and Tamara Hamilton, PhD — “Mechanochemical synthesis of porphine and bis-pocket porphyrin”

  • Qiwen Su and Tamara Hamilton, PhD — “Tetra-meso-substituted porphyrins via mechanochemistry; reaction homology and applications of a porous catalyst”

  • Nirva Maxi and Tamara Hamilton, PhD — “Tetra-substituted porphyrin with exo-dentate binding groups: Toward catalytic metalloporphyrin assemblies”

  • Shatora Everett-Hannah and Tamara Hamilton PhD — “Mechanochemical Oxidation Leading to Porphyrins”

  • Miguel Gao and Tony Wallner, PhD — “Synthesis,NMR characterizationand kineticstudies ofcreatine pyroglutamate”

  • Eva Paulus; Diana Cordero; Nirva Maxi; Ramon Gutierrez; Tamara Hamilton, PhD; and George H. Fisher, PhD — Barry University Chemistry Club: “Sharing our Passion for Chemistry”

In addition to presenting research, the Chemistry Club was named Outstanding Chapter, an honor it has received for more than 15 consecutive years.
